Hi friends!!!
It’s been a really long time since we’ve had an update on the goings on at a.k.a. HOPE.  Part of that is due to the birth of our little girl 4 months ago, some health issues that have sprung up for Courtney after delivery, and just trying to figure out how to be parents!
But the other reason is why we’re writing this today.
From the very beginning of a.k.a. HOPE, our goal was twofold.  The first was to get the children into a safe environment – a place where there would be no question on if they would be fed, clothed, protected and loved.  And thanks to YOU that has been the reality since we moved the kiddos up to Fort Portal a year and a half ago.  The second goal was to eventually hand over the project to the Ugandan nationals.  We wanted to set it up for success as best we could before bowing out and letting an incredible team of Ugandans run the entire ministry.

Well, guess what?  It's happening.

Claire, our co-founder and partner from before there even was an a.k.a. HOPE, has an incredible plan in place, and we are in the process of finishing up our work there, allowing Claire and the other members of the team to achieve the dreams we always dreamed about together.
This has been Claire’s dream from the beginning; it was never ours.  Our goal was to support Claire in making her dream come true in whatever way we could.  And it’s coming to fruition.
For the past several months, we’ve been hammering out the details and are excited about where we are.
We want to set up the kiddos for the best success and leave everything well.  Sadly, there’s a long history of Americans beginning a project and abandoning it.  This is not the case.  We are transitioning, as was always the plan, to the nationals – the ones who understand the country, the kiddos, and the needs far better than we ever have or ever will.  And we’d like to make this transition well.
To get them on the track to success, our goal is to raise $20,000.  This will serve to move all of the children to newly constructed premises on a beautiful piece of property, provide for all of their immediate needs and take care of any remaining debt a.k.a. HOPE has accrued – more than just a blank slate, a leg up!  Your donations remain tax deductible and after this we promise to never bug you for funds again! ;)  We are going to be officially dissolving at the end of the year, but would you please partner with us one last time at the close of this season for those beloved rascals in Fort Portal?  They are happy, they are cared for, they are fed and in school – all thanks to you.  Let’s send them off into this new season well.

And for those of you that have simply fallen in love with these children and desire to continue to follow them and give to them, Claire’s organization is called Feed My Lamb. We would strongly encourage you to look them up and support them in any way possible.
If you have any questions – (Why hand over to the nationals? What about Bill and Debra?  Will you two still have contact with the kiddos [umm….yes!  These have been our hearts for 6 years!]? etc), please ask us!  This is incredibly exciting news, and we want you to be as informed and thrilled about this as we are!
Expectant in this new season,
Chris & Courtney Skiera-Vaughn
